MENA Legal Atlas

An open map of legal-data sources across the MENA region.

An open-source project by Stephane Boghossian

Illustration: an abstract map of rounded regions with dots joined by thin lines. Solid dots are sources a machine can reach; hollow dots are not reachable yet.

What It Is

A structured map of where legal data lives in the region: gazettes, consolidated legislation, apex courts and sector regulators.

Why It Was Built

Before anyone builds legal AI on regional law, they need to know where the law is published and whether a machine can reach it. The Atlas keeps what is mapped apart from what is reachable.

How It Works

  • Each jurisdiction is an entry in one structured file, and scripts compile it into a readable document and a machine-readable file.
  • Researchers compiled the sources and a URL-validation pass checked them. Lawyer validation for each jurisdiction is planned.
  • A coverage scorecard rates where legal AI can actually work, by source depth, reachability, language and recency.
