Law Town

A small city that draws the world's legal systems as buildings.

Illustration: a small isometric town of buildings of different heights.

What It Is

A prototype that draws the world's legal systems as a city. Every building is one area of one country's law, and every floor is one legal concept.

Why We Are Researching It

A list of countries and statutes is hard to take in at once. We are testing whether a spatial map makes it easier to see how legal systems group, differ and connect.

How It Works

  • Districts group countries by legal family: common law, civil law, civil and Islamic law, and mixed systems. A central square gathers the ideas shared across traditions.
  • Search jumps to a country or a legal concept, and a time slider replays the years.
  • The Model Museum stands inside the city, and bridges link concepts across borders.
